You may not realize how much drug and alcohol abuse affects your ability to think clearly. This is the nature of addiction. Many people slip into this lifestyle over a long period of time, especially with alcoholism.

Drug addiction is a difficult opponent. That is the right word, opponent. It is trying to do you harm, and it has been from day one. It probably has already done you quite a bit of harm. You unknowingly helped it to do so, in the beginning. Chances are your decision to fight your drug addiction is a recent one. Some people and families are embarrassed about the addiction problems they face. In some communities, it is valid to be worried that other people will find out about an addiction problem. This is especially true if the individual or someone else in the family is in a high profile position. For example, a lawyer probably wouldn’t want their clients to know about their struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction. They would risk losing clients and respect in the community. Other people simply live in a more closed-minded community, or they don’t want to deal with being approached about the subject by acquaintances. » Read The Rest
